But isn't that also the point of being a realist? Having the truth of all the bullshit we've known for and making us realize it? (ofc we wouldn't even bother to tell others, but we could at least hear/read his thought process.) Otherwise it would be a very boring show after everything was easily solved in just a few episodes and now the story became stale and there's only romance to fill in.

We could always say that the hero's situation could've been more dire to make it more interesting and also to prolong the story. But it's all done now, can't do anything to change that. (And this is also what I think would be a more enjoyable take on a realist MC)

also, I believe there is no crudeness in a realist being a critic, but he won't be just a critic since this is a realist's show after all. By the comedic take I mentioned, while he will be roasting them, he's also the king, it's his job to fix them and he will do so while astonishing us with clever ways as fitting of a realist hero.

Hes loosely meant to be less a realist and more a machevilli prince, they spoke the truths that benefitted them, its more being devious hes just lucky his world has few enemies and not the most devious at that

being a realist isn't necessarily speaking facts and more about thinking logically and not being optimistic basically thinking about something that can actually happen and not something that is crazy and farfetched

The part where the realist "hero" threw away the balance of power and turned the kingdom into a fascist dictatorship was certainly not part of the comedy. Now that we know how Attack on Titan ended I think people have to admit some Japanese authors are just straight up fascists.

Btw, REAL historical kingdoms were EXTREMELY cloak-and-dagger, with entire courts being crawling with spies at all times, and with the king rarely having the real power (it was always the international merchants who were really in control, people like Lord Stanley for instance). It's not the simplistic picture painted by fairy tales, that seems to have bled into shows like "Realist" Hero. The idea that a king would be permitted to hand "his" kingdom over to an unknown foreigner is beyond laughable.

Look at the Roman Aqueducts, or 500BC inventors like Archimedes, or the political system of ancient Greece and Rome, and tell me a college student who read Machiavelli would be able to take over that. Even Machiavelli wasn't a modern author, he was born in the 15h century FFS. Don't you think the kingdom in the show might have its own Machiavellis?
